How to start up the Bath House
Read the following steps carefully as they show you how to get the burner going correctly and how to maintain the right temperatures!
Step 1
Take a few (4 or 5) sticks of Fat Wood, you will need these to start the fire
Step 2
Uncover the wood pile and take out 2 nice straight logs, preferably without any burls in them so you can split them easily
Step 3
Then split them into thin slivers, (each log should produce 4 or 5 of them)
Step 4
Take a stick and clear the bottom grill of the burner with it, to allow free passage of air. Open the bottom drawer for air to flow in.
Step 5
Stack the Fat Wood pieces carefully
Step 6
Then using 1 or 2 matches light the thinnest piece
Step 7
It should take 2 to 3 consecutive matches to light a piece. Put other pieces on top of the one already burning.
Step 8
Now carefully stack the slivers that you've split on top of the burning Fat Wood. The more you can fit the better. Make sure air can flow freely between them.
Step 9
Close the door tightly and make sure the bottom drawer is open. You should now hear the fire roar.
Please make sure you cover the wood stack with the blue tarp and hook the front on a wire at the bottom of the slate so the wind won't blow it open. I Appreciate it!
Step 10
After about 10 minutes, the fire should be strong and steady.
Step 11
Now you can put in big logs like this. The wood burner is very efficient, and burns big logs like this even if they are wet!
Step 12
Close the door tightly again to let the logs burn hot. You will probably go through 2 full loads of wood before the sauna is ready to be used.
Step 13
Keep checking the thermometer inside the sauna for desired temperature.
  • For most people, 80 to 90 degrees Celcius is ideal
  • Most russian saunas are 100 to 105 degrees
  • If you are training for the Sauna Championship, make it 110
  • Try not to exceed 120, as the wood will start to emmit irritating odor
Step 14
When the desired temperature is reached, put in additional logs if needed, and leave the door slightly opened, this way the temperature will not rise!

Now, go and enjoy your bathing!
